Project Description

School Smart Consultants were contacted by St George’s Catholic Primary School, to assist with the design and creation of a new rosary garden to an existing paved courtyard area. After initial consultation School Smart Consultants were appointed as Principle Designer, Designer and  Clients Agent for the project.

Careful consideration was required when developing the design concept of the garden, for the area was surrounded by the school building on all four sides limiting access for construction plant and materials. The garden needed to be designed to ensure low maintenance and to ensure longevity with minimal on going costs and time implications to the School.

The garden was created to provide a peaceful environment for quiet reflection to be used by the children, staff and families of St. Georges Catholic Primary School. The garden represented Mary with her statue located in the heart of the garden and four main flowerbeds were created to represent the mysteries luminous, glorious, sorrowful and joyful. The planting scheme was coordinated by colour, shape and size for the floral mysteries to create a serene and sensory atmosphere within the garden. The entrance to the garden is via the main hall to ensure accessibility for all visitors including push chairs. A crucifix set within the resin path signifies the entrance of the garden and circular paths and walkways have been created to lead to the central statue. Pathways consist of stepping stones set in resin to ensure a level surface to accommodate needs and accessibility to all and reflect the “Hail Mary” beads of the rosary. Our Father stones have been created from mosaic tiles and sensory elements have been incorporated into the garden through texture, sight and smell of plants and materials.
